Dr. Raoul was a capable scientist who held a key position at Rentu when Atlas began taking over Earth. He worked in the biomechanical apparatus program, and in the midst of working on a new prototype, their facility was assaulted. The initial bombardment took the researchers by surprise. Shells riddled the facility, one of which struck close to Raoul, severely wounding him. He was forced to transplant his brain into the prototype body or die. He was still mid-operation when Atlas's forces finally breached the walls of Rentu. Before Raoul's brain link could be fully established, the facility had to be evacuated.
Raoul's Synd body sat in Rentu for years before it was discovered to have faint life signatures by one of the first Master dispatches to the area. During their investigation, the body's defense programming was triggered. Disoriented and barely able to control his own vessel, Dr. Raoul responded with violence, ultimately escaping into the depths of the Research Wing. The promise of researching one of the first generation Synd designs was too important, however. Eventaully, Masters were dispatched to subdue and recover him. Upon their successful return, Imadath ordered the Dredgion engineers to repair him. Once Raoul regained consciousness, he had lost large swaths of memory, his personality forever altered. In the place of his old memories sat regret, and a hatred for the Synd that took his life from him.
